Esther 6 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

And the king said, “Who is in the court?” Now Haman had just entered the outer court of the king’s palace to speak to the king about having Mordecai hanged on the gallows that he had prepared for him. Esther 6:4 – In the previous chapter the “wow” moment was when Esther decided to approach the king in his court uninvited. Normally this would be a death sentence for that individual, unless the king held out his royal scepter and allowed the intrusion to his space. Here we now have Haman, the story’s enemy, doing much the same as Esther did. Coming uninvited to the king. Now maybe there were different rules for when the king was in his court on his throne versus wherever the king was at in this part of the story, yet I imagine the king still had some level of rules for just popping in on him unannounced no matter where he was! Yet here Haman, due to his busting at the seams pride, believes he can just walk into the king’s space with no issue. He even believes that when the king is talking about honoring someone that this “someone” must be himself for who else would deserve such an honor more than him. His story is a prime example of pride going before destruction. For us today, what I hope we remember is that while we are allowed to come before King Jesus, the reasoning for that honor is not anything of ourselves. We didn’t earn that honor, we aren’t good enough ourselves for that, and we didn’t somehow purchase that blessing with our good deeds. On our own we deserve to be banned from the King’s city, never to be allowed anywhere near His throne. Yet because of the grace, mercy, and love of Jesus we can sit at the feet of the king in all His splendor and glory. What a wonderful God we serve!
