…to the space above the door, even to the inner room, and on the outside. And on all the walls all around, inside and outside, was a measured pattern. It was carved of cherubim and palm trees, a palm tree between cherub and cherub. Every cherub had two faces…Ezekiel 41:17-18 – Ezekiel and the one measuring are now on the inner side of the temple making their measurements. While noting the width and height of many of the parts of the temple, we also see Ezekiel note some of the design elements. Here were see that the whole of the inside of the temple walls were covered in a repeating design: palm tree, cherubim (angel), palm tree, as so on. Both palm trees and angels have been recorded in other versions of God’s holy meeting places, and here is what they represent. A palm tree in their culture represented life and prosperity, for imagine finding a desert oasis littered with palm trees, it would be the encapsulation of life to the weary traveler. The cherubim represented security and the protection of the Lord. What we see then was what the priests allowed to enter into the temple would see everywhere they looked, all around them, was God’s life and protection over them. Today we don’t have a physical temple to enter into, and likely this repeated pattern in Ezekiel isn’t the wall paper you’ve chosen for your house, but God still desires those who draw near to Him to be ever aware of the life and protection He is offering them. Jesus is your desert oasis, and Jesus is the commander and chief of the entirety of the angelic armies. Life is found in Jesus and security is given to those in Jesus. Enter into His presence today to see the reminders of these two wonderful blessings you have in abundance. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3592
