The fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, shall quake at my presence. And the mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall tumble to the ground. Ezekiel 38:20 – Likely all of us have woken up one day to find out that some massive natural disaster hit somewhere in the world. Recently there was devastating flash floods in Nepal, and even right now there is a large hurricane hitting Hawaii. Yet I look outside and not a drop is in the sky. Compare that though to the earthquake spoken about in this chapter. Everything and everyone on earth will feel it, and as the passage says, all will quake at the Lord’s presence. Now we aren’t given exactly how this earthquake was to help Israel in her being attacked, but if nothing else it got the attention of both the attacker and victim that the Rescuer had shown up on the scene. Israel needed to feel that her God had shown up to help her, and the enemy needed to feel the immense power of the force he was about to come against. Know God is not afraid to show His power in our life. He’s not afraid to shake the ground beneath us. Yet remember when it does, that for those who are walking faithfully after Him that shaking is the sound of rescue coming near, not death on it way.
