Ezekiel 29 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Then all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the Lord. Because you have been a staff of reed to the house of Israel, when they grasped you with the hand, you broke and tore all their shoulders; and when they leaned on you, you broke and made all their loins to shake. Ezekiel 29:6-7 – This isn’t the first time the Lord had to come against Egypt for the ways they treated Israel. This time Israel had sought to lean on Egypt for help against Babylon, yet Egypt deceived them and refuse to offer any aid. Going along with the analogy given in the verse, Egypt was Israel’s walking staff that Israel hoped to rest upon when the walking got hard. The moment though Israel put their body weight on their walking staff it broke leaving them even more weakened on the floor. God’s message is to stop relying on all these other walking staffs and lean on the rod our Shepherd holds instead. I need this right now, for many of you know I’m in a season with my baby girl in the NICU currently. Right now I could be choosing to lean on so many things this world, and even the enemy, is offering me. I know though those are “broken staffs.” While tired and spent emotionally, I could lean on these things, but they wouldn’t be able to hold me up. Jesus can though. His rod and His staff, they comfort me. I’m so grateful for Jesus in this season. All praise and glory to Him! In your seasons of trials, choose to lean on the staff your Good Shepherd offers you for it will never let you down. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3582
