And for the house of Israel there shall be no more a brier to prick or a thorn to hurt them among all their neighbors who have treated them with contempt. Then they will know that I am the Lord God. Ezekiel 28:24 - These last few chapters have been targeted prophecies against the nations all around Israel. A primary reason such prophecies were given to them was to address and punish their evil done against God people, especially when Israel was in an already weakened state. Yet we see in our passage another, just as important and if not more, reason God spoke against these nations. It would be so Israel could be free. Free from these thorns in their side who were crushing and expending them. God would come again those who came against His people so His people would know He was God. As we see even in this chapter, these leaders of other nations made themselves out to be gods, but the Lord was to establish this clear message for His people: there is no other God but the Lord. For us today, know God is going to take care of the “thorns” in our life that are seeking to keep us crushed in this life. Yet when such relief comes from the Lord, remember He is seeking to reveal to you who He is. An almighty God who is ever present with and loves you. What a mighty God we serve! – Daily DEVO 3581
