Then I will make you go down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of old, and I will make you to dwell in the world below, among ruins from of old, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not be inhabited; but I will set beauty in the land of the living. Ezekiel 26:20 – Once again we see the Lord speaking against a nation that took advantage of God’s people when His people we in a weakened state. Tyre, the location spoken about in our chapter, has two impactful statements said of it in this verse. First that while God yes would punish them for their evil, this was more than a slap on the wrist. They’d be going down…like “down” down. Down into the grave and Hell for their sinful actions. Second we see that the punishment of this sinful nation opened the doors for beauty to be set again. While as we’ve learned in Ezekiel, the Lord never desires the wicked to die, He will allow them to face the consequences of their choice. He also then shows He has the power to then create something in the place where such evil once flourished. Our takeaway, we serve a God who can even make beauty grow from where death was sentenced. Graves into gardens. His plan is redemption and restoration, not for things to remain forever in death. What a wonderful God we serve that is willing to bring justice to where evil reigns and who will grow beauty in the place where evil once fostered only death.
