Thus says the Lord God: Because the Philistines acted revengefully and took vengeance with malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity, therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast. Ezekiel 25:15-16 - While I selected the verses that spoke against the Philistines, we see multiple neighboring nations of Israel spoken about in this chapter, and the chapters ahead. Essentially what we’re seeing is that when Judah and the Temple were destroyed, not only did these neighboring nations not help, but they reveled the destruction of God’s people and land. As we see with the Philistines, they took advantage of the situation to take out their revenge on Israel and attacked with “malice of the soul to destroy with never-ending enmity.” While maybe not verbiage we use, we can at least agree they didn’t treat Israel well! Yet notice what God spoke in this passage to all these nations that took advantage of Israel in her weakened state. God promised to come down hard on these nations. Today, take away the truth that God doesn’t take lightly the harming of His people. While the “Philistines” in our day may treat believers unjust and cruelly, God sees it and God deals with it. Know in your life as you seek to follow the Lord faithfully if there is opposition to your faithfulness, our Lord is a God that stands up for His people and makes wrongs right.
