…then those of you who escape will remember me among the nations where they are carried captive, how I have been broken over their whoring heart that has departed from me and over their eyes that go whoring after their idols. And they will be loathsome in their own sight for the evils that they have committed, for all their abominations. Ezekiel 6:9 – We see in this chapter the Lord speaking against the idolatry that could be found in Israel. The mountaintops, hilltops, to even the valleys were places of cult worship and sacrifices to false gods. Such idolatry should have been wiped from Israel’s land, yet instead it was embraced and deepened. See though the effect this idolatry had on the Lord. Yes it angered Him, to the point that we see Him take the actions described in this book, but we see also another and possibly shocking emotion from the Lord. Heartbreak. While I don’t fully comprehend how this works on the level for the Lord, our choice to sin breaks the heart of the Lord. For the Lord deeply loves us, to the point of sacrificing His own Son to be with us, yet we’d rather keep our eyes on work or another video game. How would you feel if the person you loved with everything you had rejected you for something completely worthless? Likely that would break your heart, and so it is with the Lord. Be aware that our choice to sin doesn’t just impact our life and the lives of those around us, it impacts the Lord. In some way His heart is pained when we depart from His path and allow our eyes to settle on sin. He longs to live with you and that can only happen when we are pursuing holiness. Choose that this day will be a day that your life reflects His joy back to Him, not one that breaks His heart due to your choice with sin. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3559
