And you shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house. Ezekiel 2:7 – In yesterday’s chapter and devotion we saw Ezekiel seeing some wonderous, but hard to understand things. Eventually he witnesses what he believed to be what the throne of God and God Himself must appear like. In his awe of that scene, the Lord speaks to Ezekiel and sets forth Ezekiel’s life mission. Ezekiel was to take on the role of a prophet proclaiming the word of God to God’s people. Israel though, as stated repeatedly in this chapter, was not a nation that was known for their faithful obedience to the Lord. They repeated rebelled against God’s law despite having many others prior seeking to lead them back to the Lord. While the likelihood of Israel hearing what Ezekiel had to say and making the holy changes they needed to was slim, this didn’t change the mission the Lord was giving Ezekiel. Whether Israel rejected God’s word or dove into greater obedience to it than like never before, Ezekiel’s call to share the word of God was a constant. This ought to be a helpful lesson for us as we dwell on what the Lord has called us to do. The people we’re called to love may not love us back, but that doesn’t mean we don’t still love them. The people we share the Gospel with may not accept it, but that doesn’t mean we don’t still share it with them. Our call isn’t based on the response of the people we’re sent to, our call is based on the command of God. Whether people accept or reject our words, or even us, isn’t the determiner of if we do what God has called us to do. If the Lord has called us to something, our mission then is to do it.
