I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me. Psalm 101:3 - Let nothing worthless be set before your eyes. Be honest, how much do we put before our eyes that would likely fit into a “worthless” category. Meaning they offer nothing positive to our spiritual life, in fact it either is just a distraction from our purpose in life, or worse a sin that draws us away from the Lord. Maybe it’s scrolling on social media and you know all it’s doing is fueling your insecurities or jealousy. Maybe it’s the way you allow yourself to look at people in public that feeds your lusts. Maybe it’s just hours and hours of mindless binge watching shows you’ve already seen before. Know this isn’t me hating on social media or streaming shows, but if we’re real with ourselves I betcha we could label much of what we spend our eyes looking at as “worthless.” What would a shift look like for you to live as the psalmist, to not let anything worthless be set before your eyes? What apps would need to be deleted? What books would need to be swapped out for reading something holy instead? Today try your best to not let your eyes settle on things that you know are hurting your walk with the Lord. Hate such things like the psalmist, refuse to let it cling to your life. This doesn’t mean we can’t still enjoy things in life, but if something truly is offering no value to our life spiritually and is pulling our eyes even for only a short while away from the Lord, why would remain content with it being something our eyes look upon?
