For your servants hold her stones dear and have pity on her dust. Psalm 102:14 - Even the intro to the psalm shows the agony within the heart of the writer. That this was a psalm meant for the servant of God who is faint from affliction and is pouring their heart out before the Lord. See though the words in our verse above. While navigating his own calamities, the psalmist speaks of the city of God. How he held the rumble and dust of the afflicted city dear still to him. What all is this getting at? What we have is someone navigating a hardship, yet still caring about the hardships of others. He knew it wasn’t just him going through difficulties, but he could look out beyond himself to the people of God and see the difficulties they were facing too. While certainly a challenge as a follower of God, we too need to be able to look up beyond ourselves and our troubles to see the troubles of others around us. Your family may be struggling, but we can still pray for other families with struggles. Your job may be a nightmare, but you can still love people at your work who are in the nightmare with you. Jesus Himself was the perfect example of this, for while hanging on the cross He sought the forgiveness of the soldiers who crucified Him and made sure His own mother was taken care of. Take your troubles to the Lord always, and be willing to lift your eyes off from yourself and your troubles to see the needs of those around you as well. For if having difficulties in life gave us the allowance to hold back from our mission, then we’d never get anywhere with the gospel. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3516
