It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing praises to your name, O Most High…Psalm 92:1 – This psalm has a unique aspect about it that is unlike any of the other psalms, it is prefaced by labeling it a “Song for the Sabbath.” The idea then was this would be a psalm sung during the worship gatherings done by the Jews on a Sabbath day. And what do we see was the message to be championed by the worshippers at the beginning of the song? It is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord and sing praises to His name. Brother or sister in Christ, I hope today is a day where you are taking time to give thanks to the Lord and give praise to His name, for it is a good thing. As the Lord looked down on the works of creation after He finished and labeled them good, so is scripture labelling good our giving thanks and praise to the Lord. Today then I challenge you to do what is good. First, with the giving thanks, find time today to thank the Lord for twenty different things that He has put in your life. It can be grand things like your salvation to small things like the cup of coffee in your hand. Second, with the giving praise, pick your favorite worship song, hit play and just listen to it straight though. Don’t listen and fold laundry or work out or drive somewhere, don’t do other things while listening, just listen and if you want sing along with the song great.
