Psalm 91 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 – When we bought our house many years ago, a previous owner added an underground storm shelter. It’s nothing grand, but big enough for the family to shelter in when the storms come rolling in. Yet knowing about the shelter and being in the shelter are two very different things. Imagine a tornado is coming straight towards my house, the sirens are blaring, and while everyone else is taking cover, I’m still chilling on my front porch. You ask why I’m not running to my shelter and I reply, “I’m safe, I have a shelter in the backyard.” That statement is true, but unless I’m in the shelter, that shelter isn’t doing me any good while I remain on the front porch when the tornado hits. For many believers, we know God is a shelter for us. We’ve heard it in sermons, read about it in verses like this one above, and sang such words in praise songs. Yet are we dwelling and abiding in that shelter? It’s wonderful that we have the knowledge that God is a place to find rest and safety in through life, but if we remain sitting on the “front porch” when the tornado hits, that shelter isn’t doing much good for us. If we just sit in the knowledge that God is a safe place to go, but never run to Him, we’ve missed the blessing of what He can do for us in our times of need. My encouragement to you then is to dwell in God, not just know about Him and what He can do. Daily find time with Him, weave prayer all throughout your day, habitually spend time in church community. If the greatest shelter of all is available to us right at this moment and in it has all the blessing we need, why wouldn’t we turn to it today?  I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3505

Question To Ponder: What could be a reason a Christian refuses to turn to the Lord in their time of need?
