I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. Psalm 71:22 – After a chapter of calling upon God to remember him when he was weakened, David shifts to tell the Lord that with everything at his disposal he would praise the Lord. With the last three verses of this psalm I imagine David pausing and looking at what is with him right at that moment and saying with such things He would praise this God that never left him. He had a voice, so he’d sing praise. He has lips, so he’d shout for joy. He had a tongue, so he’d talk all day about God’s righteousness. Likely David was holding his harp and thought, oh yeah, I can praise you with this too! I simply love the imagery given here by David. It wasn’t a long list of complicated, expensive, out of reach things that David said he’d praise the Lord with. It was just his voice and whatever was in his hands at that moment. For you, let this psalm remind you to not overcomplicate your praise of the Lord. It doesn’t have to happen only in a sanctuary filled with expensive lights and talented leaders on stage. Praise of the Lord can happen right wherever you are at this moment. Maybe you’re in your chair at home or maybe you’re on the road somewhere, know you can praise God there. And whatever is in your hands right now can be your tool to praise God. Maybe it’s your phone or steering wheel or your little baby. All are wonderful tools just like David’s harp you can praise God with. Everything David had to praise with in this psalm you have. A voice, lips, tongue, and whatever your hands can hold. You also like David have a history of God taking care of you to fuel that praise. So what are you waiting for? Praise the Lord! I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3484
