Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 – How gloriously simple yet how immensely powerful this passage is. Here we see the pathway spelled out for us on how to be saved from the wrath of God on our sin and the eternal condemnation in Hell. Confession and belief. First we see confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord. Now don’t get too hung up on the idea that one must verbally say this out loud for them to be saved, I believe God is gracious enough if there is a true desire for following Him in someone’s life that even if those exact words don’t come out verbally they still will be saved. The point is there needs to be an agreement with the claim that Jesus is Lord and that He is everything He says He is. Something in Paul’s day would be a very risky claim to agree with for it came with steep punishment. Yet just saying the words “Jesus is Lord” won’t do anything for you unless they are coupled with a belief in the power of resurrection. For if Jesus never rose from the dead, then our entire system of belief is worthless, yet because He rose from the dead there is the power to grant eternal life through Jesus. Be willing to agree with the claims of Jesus about Himself that His is the Lord and the only way to the Father. Choose to believe with your whole being that Jesus raised from the dead and is truly alive today. Such is the pathway to salvation!
