Acts 1 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke beforehand by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus. Acts 1:16 – At a first read when we see words like “Scripture had to be fulfilled,” it’s easy to think it was speaking about Jesus’ ascension, but when you look more closely you see exactly what Peter was speaking about. We have the crew of disciples in the upper room, praying, grieving, and seeking to figure out the next step. Peter then gets up and says what he does, but says it concerning the loss of Judas. While it’s easy to think the other disciples would have deep hate for Judas, and there may have been some, there was also deep loss concerning him. This was a brother they did life with for over three years, then out of nowhere he turns on the group and Jesus, then commits suicide. Confusion, grief, anger…all things the other disciples would have been feeling around this. We too can be frustrated and saddened by the people in our life when they pivot away from the Lord in a surprising way. Allow such a passage to encourage you if this has happened in your story. If a loved one has walked away from the faith, and maybe even hurt you in the process, know such hurts were felt even by the earliest of followers of Jesus Christ. Yet also hear what Peter was saying in this chapter. Feel the grief but know at some point its time accept what has happened and move on with the mission. Scripture isn’t telling us we can’t feel the loss, but it is telling us we can still fulfill what God has called us to even in the seasons of loss. Trust the Lord is able to take care of you in this season and that He sees your loved one as well. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3609
