Now in the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s command and edict were about to be carried out, on the very day when the enemies of the Jews hoped to gain the mastery over them, the reverse occurred: the Jews gained mastery over those who hated them. Esther 9:1 – Today’s chapter shows how the tables were turned on those seeking to end the lives of God’s people. An edict went out saying on a certain day all Jews were to be executed, a massive victory for those in the empire that hated the Jewish people. Yet, on that very calendar day that the genocide was to take place, another message was heard and as we see in the passage above, the reverse of what the enemies expected took place. The enemy that had their swords ready felt the sword hit themselves. The enemy that sought to end the lives of God’s people saw their life end instead. While certainly a gruesome passage when you hear how many tens of thousands of people died, but it is a reminder to us of an option that is always available to our Lord. He can always pull the reverse card. When our enemy looks to find victory over us God can give us the victory instead. When our enemy looks to as if he’ll finally end us, God can give us life and place us in the most blessed season we’ve ever experienced. God is great at causing the reverse of the outcome our enemy expected to take place. Do not them be worn down by the hopelessness of what you see ahead of you. Imagine the reverse of that hopelessness and know that is available through the Lord. What a blessing it is to have a God like our God who can take any plans our enemy has to hurt us and instead bring the hurt upon the enemy instead ! Question To Ponder: Why would God want to use this “reverse card” idea instead of just never allowing the enemy to suggest an attack?
