And they told Mordecai what Esther had said. Esther 4:12 – Now I’ve read this chapter MANY times, written devotions and even lessons over it, but for some reason until today I didn’t realize something. This conversation had a middleman. This chapter is kind of the chapter that most people think of when they think of the story of Esther; it holds that iconic verse of “for such a time as this.” We have this back-and-forth conversation between Esther and her faithful cousin Mordecai, and while it reads as if they are talking to each other face-to-face, as you look more deeply at the verses you see that wasn’t the case. One of the king’s eunuchs, Hathach, played the role of messenger boy between Esther and Mordecai in this back and forth, and very important, conversation. Could you imagine everything running through his head as he went back and forth between the two as he is learning all these secrets! How essential though would it have been for him to communicate the messages exactly, for remember, while it was Mordecai’s words that said “for such a time as this” it was Hathach’s voice that Esther heard say those words. For us, we have a God who has given us His perfect word and we have people that need to hear His word. We are the “Hathach” in this story. We are the middlemen. And it’s essential we share and it’s essential we share exactly what God is saying. For dwell on what damage could have come to the entire population of Jews if Hathach decided to not share things properly. God’s word needs to be heard and spoken by those speaking it accurately. For while we just have to use our imagination on what could have happened if these messages weren’t told properly in Esther’s story, we can read clearly what took place as a result of the messages being told properly. Life was found by those who needed it. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3603
Question To Ponder: How have you felt the pains of a middleman not doing their job right?
