Esther had not made known her kindred or her people, as Mordecai had commanded her, for Esther obeyed Mordecai just as when she was brought up by him. Esther 2:20 – Here our chapter outlines the sad events that took place around Esther’s life. Esther, an orphan raised by her cousin while exiled in enemy land, is forcefully taken alongside hundreds of other young ladies to be modeled before this pagan king. After a night with the king, if he didn’t choose you, you’d be left in his harem for the rest of your life never to marry another. We also see in the midst of this journey, Esther’s cousin commanded her a unique command…don’t tell anyone you’re a Jew. Why? Possibly because he thought she would be treated differently, for we do see later on an edict go out that all Jews were to be killed in Persia, but exactly why Mordecai told her to conceal her faith isn’t clear. When it comes to our life, we too may be brought into a whirlwind of difficult situations. Placed in a place we don’t want to be with people we don’t want to be with. In such seasons we too can be tempted to “conceal” our faith. Maybe it’s not purposeful concealment, but instead of being active in sharing we choose to remain silent due to dealing with everything else going on. Esther was not in sin for not saying anything about her being a Jew, for even we need to be wise about when/where we proclaim we are a follower of Jesus (Example I saw of when to not share immediately, maybe you are in a witnessing opportunity and you listen for a while first because you know that will foster better conversation). Wisdom of when/where is very different than a silence of never sharing you follow Jesus. Always lean on the side of letting others know you follow Jesus, and don’t allow the happenings of life dissuade you from sharing that truth. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3601
Question To Ponder: When else might be a time you should be strategic about when/where you share you follow Jesus?
