As for you, son of man, describe to the house of Israel the temple, that they may be ashamed of their iniquities; and they shall measure the plan. And if they are ashamed of all that they have done, make known to them the design of the temple, its arrangement, its exits and its entrances, that is, its whole design; and make known to them as well all its statutes and its whole design and all its laws, and write it down in their sight, so that they may observe all its laws and all its statutes and carry them out. Ezekiel 43:10-11 – This chapter is such a powerful depiction and reminder of what God is wanting with us. It begins with the glory of God filling the Temple Ezekiel has been envisioning. The Lord then extended an invitation to Israel, that if they turned from their wrongs the Lord would give them the details for how to make this Temple. Essentially saying unless the people grieved the sin they committed, the Lord wasn’t going to even begin the process of creating a pathway for them to return. I’m so grateful our story isn’t this. While we were still sinners, planning out our evil schemes and having no shame over our sin, God moved forward with our redemptive plan by sending Jesus. He did wait for us to turn, but turned to us first. I pray you see how amazing this is. That for Israel, God would give them His glory in a temple that dwelt in their midst if they were shamed of their sin when made aware of God’s greatness. Yet for us, God gave us not only His glory but also His Son when our eyes certainly were not on Him. Praise the Lord for the blessing of this.
