I will lay your cities waste, and you shall become a desolation, and you shall know that I am the Lord. Because you cherished perpetual enmity and gave over the people of Israel to the power of the sword at the time of their calamity, at the time of their final punishment. Ezekiel 35:4-5 – For us reading through Ezekiel, it can seem like the Lord is just on a nonstop rant about destroying a bunch of nations, but understand the bigger picture here. Imagine a teacher coming out to find a group of ten kids bullying another student. While the teacher could step in and tell the whole group what they did wrong, her taking each student aside and speaking with them individually would bring the message much more personally to them. Such is what God is doing with the “bullies” of Israel. He is taking each one and making sure they know He sees them, He knows exactly what they did and to the extent they did it against His people, and He is tailoring the punishment for their unique offenses. This shows us that God is just for He isn’t letting anyone slide for their actions, and it reminds us that God still even desires the repentance of the wicked for He was willing to speak directly into each one after their wrongs. Sometimes it too can feel as if God has pulled us aside and is speaking directly at our wrongs. We feel like we’re in the spotlight with everything exposed, and know that’s the truth and that’s the Lord’s point. He wants us to know He sees our sin, but He also is willing to take the time to invest in us personally so we’d see the truths around our sin to actually repent of them. God desires us with Him, and He’ll take the time needed with us, even if that time includes our sin in the harsh spotlight. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3588
