I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. I will purge out the rebels from among you, and those who transgress against me. I will bring them out of the land where they sojourn, but they shall not enter the land of Israel. Then you will know that I am the Lord. Ezekiel 20:37-38 – As you read the chapter, it’s not difficult to see the cycle God’s people had with Him. They would be led by God and blessed by God, but would choose to worship something else other than Him. Multiple generations had the opportunity to choose faithfulness, but even up to the generation of Ezekiel Israel continued to choose idols over the Lord. Such is the reasoning for what we see in this passage. God promises in the future He would bring them to their homeland, but He would stand at the gate to their homeland as a shepherd would a sheep pen. The shepherd would hold out his staff over the entrance and any sheep/thing trying to get in that wasn’t his sheep would be refused entrance. God as our shepherd said He’d be holding out His shepherd’s staff and any sheep that didn’t belong to Him wouldn’t be allowed into His home. This was the reality for Israel as they sought to end their exile and enter back into their homeland one day, but it’s also our reality today. Saying you’re a Christian and repping Christian jewelry isn’t going to cut it to get into Heaven one day. Jesus, our Good Shepherd, is standing at the door and no one that doesn’t truly follow Jesus is allowed into Heaven. Following must be more than mere words, but faithful action. Do you then actually follow Jesus? Is He truly your Lord? If so, then know your welcome to Heaven is assured, but if not, the welcome will not be there. Choose today to follow Jesus! I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3573
