He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. Psalm 107:20 – Our psalm today reveals two truths. First, due to our actions we can find ourselves in deep trouble. Second, that God can rescue us from the deepest of troubles. Maybe it’s a desert waste we’ve walked ourselves into, maybe it’s the bonds of darkness and pain, maybe it’s even the troubles brought upon us by our own foolish choices with sin. Our psalm shows us God is mighty to save and does save those who cry out to Him. The verse highlighted for our devotion reveals a means of saving the Lord uses. God sent out His word. This was in response to the fool who made foolish choices with sin, found themselves suffering, without, and on the edge of death. How did God come to the rescue in this situation? God sent out His word. I believe we can understand it two ways. Those in the pit of sin can find rich healing in their life when they listen and obey the written word of God. There is power in the scriptures, power to heal and guide, for God blesses the one who obeys His word. Also there is healing that comes through God sending us Jesus, the Word. Jesus, the Word, delivers those who call upon Him from the destruction of death and Hell. How marvelous is it that we serve a God who is willing to not only hear our cries but send us His word to heal and deliver us. I encourage you to call out to the Lord if you too are in a space needing rescue. Know He hears and know He moves we call upon Him.
