Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Psalm 95:6-7a – Why should we worship God? Why should you worship God? Our psalm multiple times over gives the direction “let us” do something in reverence to the Lord . Let us sing to Him…let us come into His presence with thanksgiving…let us kneel before Him as our Lord. Why though should we give God such worship and reverence? For all of humanity a starting answer would be that God is their Maker. While only those who choose to follow the Lord are His children, every person is God’s creation and He is their Maker, making Him worthy of their honor. For all those who on top of being a creation of God is also a child of God, the list of why to worship the Lord is extensive. Yet even see the reason in our verse above. God cares for us like a good shepherd would for all the sheep in his flock. We are held in the hands of God, and He pastures us, meaning He watches over us and takes care of our needs. We then have the most awesome being in all of the universe and He still takes the time for each of us, protecting us and providing for our needs. As the psalmist then said, come, let’s worship and bow down. Our Lord is worthy of our worship today. Be willing to follow what He says about your sin, be willing to treat others how He commands us to, be willing to invest time with Him today. This is a snapshot of what “bowing down and worshipping” Him today could look like. Let us give Him what we can for He deserves every bit of it.
