…you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance. Psalm 66:12 – One of my memory verses has been Isaiah 43:1-3, and it touches on much the same idea that this psalm speaks about. In Isaiah the Lord reminds His people that when they go through the waters and rivers, that He will be with them. That they walk through the fire and flames, yet they will not be burned in this life for He is their God and He is with them. As David writes this psalm He is fully aware that even as a faithful to God man, the fires and waters of life were still to come. Yet, as Isaiah knew, David knew as well. God is with us always in those times and takes us from those difficult seasons into a place of abundance. Maybe that abundance will be of worldly treasures, but what is more likely is an abundance of a different type. An abundance of peace and joy for you have seen the Lord work wonders in your life. An abundance of life for you have seen what death in this world looks and feels like and you’ve been rescued from such places. As followers of God accept the reality that Isaiah and David understood, fires will still come in the life of the faithful, but you have a God with you in those flames. Walk with Him in those flames and He’ll lead you out the other side refined and restored. Regardless if you follow Jesus or not, you will experience the fires of this life, why not lock hands with the One in the flames with you that can walk you out.
