Deuteronomy 9 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

So I lay prostrate before the Lord for these forty days and forty nights, because the Lord had said he would destroy you. Deuteronomy 9:25 – The image given here is Moses, lying flat on the grown before the Lord for forty days and nights…why? In the chapter we see Moses reminding the people just how stubborn they were. Every step of the way to the Promised Land they were rebellious to the Lord. We see how the Lord’s anger was kindled and was about to hit the restart button with His people, yet Moses laid before the Lord those forty days and nights…praying. Praying for the people and praying the Lord would change His course of action, and it worked. The Lord choose to not wipe out Israel because of the faithful prayer of Moses. So if Moses didn’t pray would Israel had been destroyed? Likely. Does that mean prayer can have the effect of changing God’s course of action? Yes. Yet if God is sovereign and unchanging, how does our prayers “change” anything? Understand that prayer is not like a vending machine that if we say the right things we can “make” God do what we want. What God does though is invite us into the work He is doing through prayer. I believe God has a course He is taking this world and He welcomes us to be a part of it through prayer. Because the testimony of scripture shows this to be true, I also believe that somehow our prayers have an impact on that plan. I don’t fully understand it myself, but we see that when people prayed God moved and even moved in a different way than He first said He would. I’d encourage you then to get praying. Pray for healing in this nation, pray for the salvation of every lost person on the planet, pray for the life of your loved one. If God is inviting us to join with Him in the work He is doing and prayer can have such influence on the course of things, then let’s get to praying! I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3448
