He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your wine and your oil, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock, in the land that he swore to your fathers to give you. Deuteronomy 7:13 – What wonderful promises the Lord is making to His people, and as you read on in the chapter you see it doesn’t just stop here. God promised to take all sickness away from the Israelites and promised to drive out before them all the nations that they were too fearful to come against. They were to be the most blessed people on the planet, if they simply obeyed His word. If they would follow His instructions and keep His law, then all these promises would be theirs. In our story with God, we too have an abundance of blessings available to us. There is joy available that endures the hardships and peace that surpasses our understanding. Even blessings like the ones we see in our verse, physical blessings to enjoy in the life, are available to us. Yet, like with the Israelites our Lord blesses those who obediently follow His word and will withhold such blessings from those who refuse to follow what He says. His desire is to bless for as we see in verse 13 God loves you, but such blessings will likely not come to the one who is putting no effort into seeking to live holy like God calls us to. If then you desire God’s peace, joy, wisdom, strength, and all the other good things He brings to the table, be willing to be obedient to the commands given in scripture. Show forgiveness, share the Gospel, love on another, etc. A theme of scripture is God blessing those who faithfully follow His word, discover that theme within your life.
