And when Paul had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go on into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. Acts 16:10 – Now immediately before this Paul had a vision where a man from Macedonia called out to Paul to come and preach the Gospel the them. That’s a pretty clear sign from the Lord on where to go and what to do! Yet just verses before that we see vague language like the “the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them,” or “having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit.” Exactly what that means we don’t know, but the combination of the vague and overly clear landed Paul where he was supposed to be. As we seek to follow the Lord, so will be the directions we get from Him on where to go and what to do…vague sometimes and overly clear sometimes. For example, today is day 50 that my newborn baby is in the NICU. I don’t know if God could have been anymore clear than this that He wanted me here at this hospital at this time talking to these people about Him. But your direction may come much more on that vague side. Either way faithfulness is needed. Faithfulness to take a step when the direction isn’t fully clear and faithfulness to take a step when the path forward is overly clear but also clearly challenging. In summary, follow the Lord regardless! Ask for clarity on the directions that aren’t clear and ask for boldness when the directions are clear.
