Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison. Acts 12:6 - Alright, let’s take an account of the situation that Peter is in right now. One of the apostles was just killed and because of the kings enjoyment Peter had been imprisoned. Peter is now sleeping between two soldiers, bound with chains, locked behind doors…and look at the posture of Peter…sound asleep! Truly, so sound asleep that when an angel of the Lord appeared in that prison cell, it didn’t wake Peter, and Peter had to be knocked awake by the angel! I believe this is truly the picture of what trusting in the Lord looks like. Peter likely knew that the decision of the king was execute him in the morning, but he was able to still fall asleep, peacefully, knowing the Lord had him in His hands. I am unsure of your life situation right now. Maybe it does look like prison cells and execution sentences coming your way, but even if it’s not as intense as what the apostle Peter had to deal with, know you can trust in the Lord with whatever situation you’re in. He can provide you a peace that passes all understanding. He can rescue you from things that seem impossible to be rescued from. That is the power of our God! Trust in the Lord and lean not on your own understandings. We have a God who can give peace in a prison cell and open the doors that no one else can open, all to save those that He loves. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3620
