Deuteronomy 21 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

And if a man has committed a crime punishable by death and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall bury him the same day, for a hanged man is cursed by God. You shall not defile your land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance. Deuteronomy 21:22-23 – I wonder if when Moses spoke these words he realized the set up for Jesus, the Messiah, that he was giving. Here we see that if a man condemned to death for committing a crime was executed by hanging him on tree that he was not to remain there overnight. He was to be removed and buried that same day for that man was cursed by God. Jesus, our Savior, too was condemned to death, yet not for any crime He did but because He bore our punishment for all the crimes we did. Jesus was hung on a cross made from a tree and became the curse for us bearing God’s wrath on Himself. Lastly Jesus didn’t remain on the cross even for a night, but was buried that day so on the third day prophecies could be fulfilled and our Savior would be resurrected. Let verses like these be reminders that God had the plan of your salvation in mind long ago. Even within seemingly obscure laws given to a rebellious people we see they were being used to make way for God’s plan of our salvation to be brought about. Praise the Lord that the Father thought of us like this even at this time in history. Praise Jesus that our Savior didn’t remain cursed on that tree but is our blessed Redeemer who is alive and seated on the throne. What a mighty God we serve! I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3459

Question To Ponder: How does it feel knowing God thought of even you back on this day in Deuteronomy?
