Romans 14 – Pastor Mac Daily DEVO

As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬ ‭- This chapter is all about our role in our brothers and sisters’ lives. We see in verse one that those who are weak in the faith (think those who aren’t yet as mature in the faith as they could/should be) are people we should draw close to and welcome into our community. Why? To shame them for their immaturity in the faith? To point out to them how they are behaving sinfully? No, so much so that Paul specifically says not for the purpose of debating what’s acceptable or not to God. The teaching that Paul is seeking to share is that in Christ we are free from so many of the things we weren’t free from when under the law. Yet those less mature in the faith might not be there yet in their understanding of their freedom. Our role isn’t to shame them or separate from them, our role is to welcome them and help them. The enemy would love for believers to divide themselves over things that don’t matter, but God commands that we never be a stumbling block to our brothers in their growth. Assess then the way you have been living out your faith. Would the way you speak to those less mature than you about their ways of following God be beneficial to their growth or a stumbling block to them? Do your words encourage or discourage? Is the result of you being in their life further maturity in their faith or further listening to the lies of the enemy? Your life can either help or hurt your brothers walk, and God makes it clear we’ll stand accountable for which we did in this life. Choose wisely. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3437

Question To Ponder: How can you help someone less mature in the faith grow?
