Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure. Romans 7:13 – Imagine someone was eating a meal yet after that meal they became sick. You approach the situation, see that they have been using spoiled ingredients and settle that’s why they are feeling sick after eating. You then go and tell them of your discovery of the spoiled ingredients so they’d stop using them and start feeling better. In this situation, were you the problem? Not at all, you were the one to point out the problem was the spoiled ingredients! Such is the law in this chapter. Sin was destroying us, but we didn’t see sin as sin. The Law came and revealed to us the “spoiled” nature of the sin in our life and how it was destroying us. The Law wasn’t the problem, it was the sin. For us our problem in life comes when we don’t see sin as sin. If the sinful parts of our life aren’t seen as “spoiled ingredients,” then we’ll keep cooking with them and keep consuming them and keep getting sick off them. In order to live holy for the Lord, we must see sin as sin, and not see sin simply as something harmless that can remain in our story a little longer. As the law was in this chapter, allow God’s word to be ever present in your story. It points out the spoiled nature of things that we may have never known were sin and reveals to us how deadly such things have been in our life so far. Find yourself in a scripture preaching church, find yourself in community that lifts high God’s Word, and be in the Word yourself. Let the Word of the Lord be for you the light to see the sin hidden in the dark so you can be free of sin’s havoc. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3430
