And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its parts, and according to all its specifications. He was seven years in building it. 1 Kings 6:38 - The first temple of the Lord is now finished, and what an undertaking this must have been. This chapter gives us all the details from the size of the temple, to the way it was designed, to even how the sound of tools could not be heard at the temple grounds. Everything was built on costly, hand-cut stones, then covered in the best wood available, then everything was completely overlaid with gold. Even the floors were covered in pure gold. We see in this final verse of the chapter that this wasn’t a quick project either, it took them seven years to finish it. While it took years to complete and it took using the best of the best they had to finish it, such is the work God calls us to. Often we like to think that the task God calls us to accomplish will be quick, easy, and won’t cost us much. Let this chapter reframe your thoughts around the call God has for us. It often isn’t quick, maybe even a lifetime won’t fully complete it. It often isn’t easy, it may even be the hardest thing you’ve ever get to do in this life. It also will often cost us greatly to fulfill the calling God has for us, from time, relationships, to even our life. While it likely will be long, difficult, and costly…it’s also worth it because the Lord is worth it. Hold nothing back, give your all, and allow God to create something amazing through your life that is given over to Him. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3049
