Song of Solomon – Chapter 7

  • How beautiful are your feet in sandals, O noble daughter! Your rounded thighs are like jewels, the work of a master hand. Song of Solomon 7:1 – Once again we find the beloved speaking and what do we see him doing? He is speaking words of praises another time over his bride to affirm her beauty. This is third time he says such words to her in the book so far. First in chapter 4 he spoke of her beauty on their wedding night. Second in chapter 6 he spoke of her beauty after a time of conflict. Now in chapter 7, as their love has matured, we likely see him proclaiming her beauty in public so all can know how he sees his bride. For a woman who thought so lowly of herself like we see in the first couple chapters, having a husband confirm his love and admiration for her so often and in so many ways is a special thing. As we navigate the scriptures, one thing we could never say is that it’s difficult to discover Jesus’ heart for His bride the church. Over and over and over do we see His heart for His people. He speaks of His love for His church, He demonstrated His love for His church on the cross, and the promise of His return for His church is a resounding message of His love. As with the groom in our chapter, Jesus understood the need to affirm His love for His church many times and in many ways. His desire now is that you see yourself as the focus of such love. It would be one thing for the bride in our passage to hear the words of the groom, but another for her to accept such words being said of herself. Embrace the reality that God loves you and has His heart set on you. This isn’t just a message for the entire church, it’s also a message for you specifically. As always then, know I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3143

  • I am my beloved’s, and his desire is for me. The Song of Solomon 7:10 – He took on the form of a human. He took on the punishment of our sin. He died for us. He rose again and is giving us salvation freely. Our Beloved has made it overwhelmingly clear His desire is for us. God loves you and wants you. Don’t let the moments of struggles in life blind you to the overwhelming evidence that God has given to His love for us. If our enemy can get our eyes off that evidence we can loose our passion for living fully for Jesus. Our God loves us more deeply than anything and has chosen us above all other things. Keep that close to heart so it can be said of us we love God more than anything and has chosen Him above all other things. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 853
  • How beautiful and pleasant you are, O loved one, with all your delights! Song of Solomon 7:6 – Our passage once again has the groom listing off different aspects of the bride and how wonderful they are to him. I found myself at first seeking to wrap my brain around what each might mean in relationship to the church today. The nose must mean this and the belly must equal that. Yet a note I wrote years ago at the start of this passage reminded me to not get caught up in figuring all that out, let it simply remind you just how wholly beautiful God sees the church. Each part is beautiful to Him. Each part He desires. Each part has His love. God loves His church…the whole church. How about you? Do you love your Sunday school class? And the class next door? How about the attendees of the “other” service at your church? How about the rowdy teens? Or the older members you say are “stuck in their ways?” How about the members of the church down the street that are from a different denomination than yours? Do you love God’s church? No, not just a part, the whole church. How ridiculous would it be to come home and I tell my wife I love her eyes, but everything else about her I can’t stand. Learn to love the whole church like God loves it. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1989
