- I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine; he grazes among the lilies. Song of Solomon 6:3 – One thing is certain with this couple, they knew who they belonged to and who belonged to them. In my marriage with my wife, I love that the words said within this verse can be said of us. I belong to her, and she belongs to me. I am hers and she is mine. We belong to each other and that’s a beautiful thing. The couple in this passage did not see this “belonging to each other” as a negative or something to fight against, instead they saw it as they should, something to rejoice in and forever dwell in. While many in life get to enjoy this level of belonging within a marriage relationship, something that’s even more wonderful is that this level of belonging can be found within a relationship with Jesus. We can belong to Jesus and Jesus can be our very own. This is not meaning we own Jesus, like we are His master, for that’s not the image we’re seeing in our verse either. He is ours like a bride is to the groom and the groom to the bride. They have each other’s love, commitment, and whole selves. Nothing is held back from the other, they have full access to everything that is the other person. In our walk with Christ, Jesus ought to have nothing held back from us for we are His. He first demonstrated this sort of love for us by giving us His entire self on the cross. He held nothing back from us and He is offering us His whole self. What a blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! This is our story, this is our song. Let’s praise our Savior all the day long for this wonderful blessing. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3142
- Where has your beloved gone, O most beautiful among women? Where has your beloved turned, that we may seek him with you? The Song of Solomon 6:1 – At the end of chapter five the “others” ask her to describe her beloved and she’s goes into great detail about how amazing he is. At the end of her talk, the others want to help her find him. Why? Because after hearing about how amazing he was from her, they too wanted to see him and draw close to him. This is evangelism. We who know Jesus should be in a habit of telling people about how amazing and wonderful He is. When we share like that, we must know often their hearts will be moved to know Him like we know Him. They will want to know about Jesus. This all starts though with you sharing about Him. For they weren’t looking for the beloved before she told them about him and the people around us aren’t looking for Jesus before we tell them about Him. So with someone who doesn’t know about how amazing Jesus is, how could you help them know? Are you ready to lead them to their beloved? I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 852
- I went down to the nut orchard to look at the blossoms of the valley, to see whether the vines had budded, whether the pomegranates were in bloom. Before I was aware, my desire set me among the chariots of my kinsman, a prince. Song of Solomon 6:11-12 – As with much of this book, exactly what is being meant by this poetry we aren’t fully sure. What I can gather though from some studying in this is the bride has gone out into orchard, but not just to admire the blossoms but because she is downcast. Maybe because of the guilt of past actions or still feeling not enough for the groom. Yet, the groom comes for her and we see her desire for her groom fuel her as a chariot would to her love. Are you in the orchard yet not really looking at the blossoms? Maybe you’re there because of guilt of past actions or because you just don’t feel good enough to be in a life with Jesus. Today, hear this, Jesus is in the garden looking for you and inviting you close. Let go of the guilt, as hard as that may be. Listen and accept the words God says about you rather than the lies the enemy speaks over you. Know Jesus wants you to run to Him like we see the bride running to her groom. Find your peace in the arms of the God who loves you. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1988
