- Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flow. Let my beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits. Song of Solomon 4:16 – The previous chapter ended with the wedding procession of the couple, now we see the crowds are away and it’s the couples first night together. The beloved speaks beautiful compliments of the maiden, focus on seven parts of her body (seven being the number of perfection, highlighting her perfection in his eyes). Now, calling her virginity “her” garden, she is now calling it “his” garden, giving herself fully over to her beloved. While certainly a deeply romantic verse, for such is the book of Song of Solomon, this level of fully giving of themselves displayed in the passage is at the heart of our relationship with Jesus. He wants all of us. He wants us to no longer think of ourselves as our own anymore, but His in this life with Him. That we are giving to Jesus the most intimate parts of ourselves and He has us to the fullest. How would you say that matches where you are at within your walk with Christ? Does He fully have you? Does He only have your Sundays when they aren’t busy with other things? Does He have your mind and heart? It doesn’t take long to see in these chapters the depth of the commitment and love between the beloved and the maiden, so how long would it take for someone to see the commitment you have to Jesus? Don’t step away from this devotion feeling shame if your walk isn’t has healthy as it should be right now, that’s not my aim. The aim is to help you see Jesus, your Beloved, is here today waiting for you to be all in with Him. Let today be the day He has all of you. - You are altogether beautiful, my love; there is no flaw in you. The Song of Solomon 4:7 – We have the king listing off an array of things he sees that are beautiful about his bride. What he closes that section with is how altogether lovely is his bride and that there isn’t any flaw in her. We need to be willing to listen to what God is saying to us in this passage. God see us as beautiful and sees us as flawless. For us that’s hard to accept sometimes. When we look in the mirror and look at our past, beautiful and flawless doesn’t always come up as our first thought to describe those things. For God though it is. Remember He sees you through Jesus’ sacrifice, not through the filter of all the wrong things you’ve done. You are beautiful to God and you are flawless to Him if you have a relationship with Jesus. Do you best today to rid your mind of any voice telling you you’re something different than what God is telling you that you are in scripture. - Behold, you are beautiful, my love, behold, you are beautiful! Your eyes are doves behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats leaping down the slopes of Gilead. Song of Solomon 4:1 – You are beautiful to God and God wants all of you. Our chapter starts
with the groom stating the bride is beautiful, then he goes and lists different parts of her and how amazing she is. This showed the groom loved all of her and wanted all of her, not just a portion of her. When it comes to God know He doesn’t want just a portion of you. We can be tempted to think God wants our worship, money, and good parts only, but the rough spots and brokenness He wants kept back. This is so far from the truth. Yes God wants the good, cleaner parts of you but He wants just as much the broken, dirty parts. He wants all of you. He wants the stuff you’ve hidden from everyone your whole life. The parts that you’re most shameful of He wants. The parts others rejected about you He gladly accepts. He wants all of you. Is that though how you’ve been coming to Him? Or have you been keeping things back from Him because of fear or some other reason? Remember, God sees all, knows all, and still wants your all.
