Song of Solomon – Chapter 3

  • Scarcely had I passed them when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her who conceived me. Song of Solomon 3:4 – We find ourself again in a dream of the maiden, though she might say a nightmare. She awakens and find herself apart from her beloved. She searches and searches with no finding of him. Then, finally, she sees him. She rushes to him and refuses to let him go. Taking this and applying it to our life with the Lord, God is seeking such a pursuit of Him from us. Where we realize we are without Him, we seek Him, and we find Him. Then we hold on, refusing to let go. Why though is it important that we hold on? Because we have a tendency to drift when we aren’t actively holding close to Jesus. As I write this devotion I’m looking out over a lake and see the wind carry the waves quickly across it. Imagine a boat out on the lake, not anchored and not paddling to keep its place. We all know soon it would be far from where it started, and before long it would be on the other side of the lake due to the current. Know this world’s current isn’t going to keep you near Jesus. It’s going to seek to draw you as far away as it can from the Beloved you have found. How precious is the truth that we can never be separated from His love, but this world sure can cause our affections for Jesus to drift. So run after Jesus, anchor yourself to His word, pursue deep communion with Him in prayer. Hold on tight, never letting Him go. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 3139

  • Scarcely had I passed them when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her who conceived me. The Song of Solomon 3:4 – We see her frantically searching for her beloved in the previous verses and in this one she finds him and refuses to let him go. For us when we walk through life without God and see how dark it can get when He’s not a part of our story, when told about the hope that He can bring our hearts begin frantically searching for Him. We realize God is the only thing that can save us from the life we’ve created for ourselves and the future we’re facing. When we see our life for what it is without God, it makes sense why those who deeply embrace God do so when they find Him. I hope you too see what your life looks like without God. It’s dark and lonely. Have the heart of the woman in our passage. Search deeply for God and embrace Him as you find Him. Refuse to let go and give yourself wholly over Him. This is what it looks like to be in a relationship with God. One where God is found by you and is embraced by you with a hold that refuses to let go. • On my bed by night I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but found him not. I will rise now and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares; I will seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him, but found him not. Song of Solomon 3:1-2 – Here the maiden is having a dream, a nightmare even, of her laying in their marriage bed and waking up to find her love not with her. We see the fear and worry that overtakes her because the one she loves isn’t with her and she can’t find him. Know today when it comes to your relationship with Jesus, this sort of fear and worry never has to be a part of your life with Him. He’ll never leave you. He’ll never abandon you. He’ll always remain by your side. Sometimes our enemy will play dirty and seek to blind you from seeing your Savior right next to you. Sometimes we’ll choose our sin over Jesus and our focus will be so glued to our sin we miss Him standing next to us. It can sometimes seem He’s distant, but He never left our side. Today walk confidently knowing your Love is beside you. He is guiding your steps, protecting your path, and watching over you. Jesus will never leave you nor forsake you. Your Savior is with you today. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1985
