- They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been. Revelation 6:10-11 – God will make things right. Here those who has passed on due to their faithfulness to God are now asking God when He will bring about justice for them. They had been killed for their following of Him, when will He avenge their deaths? What’s God’s reply? Wait, there are more to join you. Meaning not only is God not standing up for us but God’s allowing more people to die? Yes, that is, for at least right now. The work isn’t done, more people are still to come to Him, and His priority is people coming to know Him over avenging. As we keep reading it’s clear no one is getting away with anything and at the same time all are getting a chance to come to know Him. In His timing everything works out. Trust the way He works things out. When it’s left in His hands all are given a chance to come to Him and justice is found. While in the moment things may seem all convoluted, know instead it’s all covered. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1574
- …for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand? Revelation 6:17 – In chapter 5 John sees a scroll with seven seals that only the Lamb (Jesus) is worthy to open. Our chapter today is the events that unfold when each seal is broken. We see terrible things happening in the world, the events of the Great Tribulation unfolding. Death, famine, and war like never seen before on earth. From the most powerful to the most pitiful, all are in terror of what is happening. After the sixth seal is opened and all this calamity is happening, the people cry out our verse, “who can stand?” Who can remain standing through all the destruction? Only those who turn and believe in the Lord. Let us remember that while the wrath of the Lord is present and real, those who place their faith in Jesus have no need to fear the wrath of God for Jesus took it upon Himself on the cross. Turning to the Lamb now saves us from God’s wrath, and turning to the Lamb even in the days of Revelation can save. Thank you Lord that we have a Savior who is worthy to open the seals and bring judgement on this wicked world, yet be gracious enough to go to the cross for the wicked world so it can have a open door for salvation.
