Revelation – Chapter 1

  • Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. Revelation 1:3 – Blessed are those who understand everything in this book fully. Blessed are those who can fully describe in detail the differences between premillennialism and amillennialism. Blessed are those who relate all that’s said in this book to every Old Testament passage that speaks the same. That’s what this verse said right? No, not at all thankfully. Scripture says we are blessed when we read these words, listen to them, and seek to keep what we hear. We don’t have to fully grasp everything, we’re told though to study this and seek to live out the message we hear from it. Let that be a comfort to you as we tackle this last book in the Bible and the last book in our first round of Daily DEVOs. As with all of scripture seek to understand it and seek to grasp all you can of it, but don’t let the parts you don’t understand hold you back from pursuing Jesus. If we have to fully understand everything first then no one would be a follower of Jesus. This is a lifelong journey of learning, let this study just be a part of that. God is promising to bless those who take on this book, let’s lean into that promise and seek to learn what we can about Him and His heart. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1569
  • “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8 – What a blessing it is to have the book of Revelation! While yes it certainly can be confusing and caused division even within the church about it’s meaning, the overarching message of Revelation is the one we are to focus in on together. Jesus is returning, Jesus is over all, and Jesus wins. While I am no scholar on end times studies, what we are going to do with this book is seek to understand together what God is teaching through each chapter about what is to come and how our lives today ought to be lived with such things in mind. While John is the one speaking at the beginning of the chapter, in verse 8 the speaker changes. Now Jesus Himself is speaking and is reminding John and the church exactly who He is. Being the Alpha and Omega, means He was in the beginning and He will be there in the end and He is over all in between. A note on the almighty from Enduring Word Commentary, “This great word Almighty is used ten times in the New Testament, and nine of the ten times are in the Book of Revelation. This book has a striking emphasis on God’s sovereignty, the understanding that He has His hand on everything.” Let us keep this truth about our God being the Almighty with us as we navigate these chapters over the next three weeks, and as we go about our day today. While is over all that is to come, He is also over all that is today. He is over the struggle, over your family, over your church, and over you. His hand is on all those things and His power is great enough to save. And being the Alpha and Omega, He isn’t going anywhere, so you can lean on Him forever. Praise Jesus we have a savior, king, priest, and God like Him in our story. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2785
