- The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! Psalms99:1 – The cherubim here speak of the two above the ark of the covenant which represented the the heavenly host that are ministering the Lord day and night. This same heavenly host that when seen by men in scripture struck fear into their hearts due to the overwhelming glory that was on them. But as with the moon, the light coming off them doesn’t originate from within themselves but by being in the presence of something that creates light. Our passage reminds us that as glorious as the angels are, their glory comes from God and being in His presence. He is above all and over all. Whatever then in your life that is stunning, brilliant, and glorious, know that God is more. I love you, but Jesus love you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1162
- Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called upon his name. They called to the Lord, and he answered them. Psalm 99:6 – It’s easy to find ourselves thinking that God loved people more like Moses, Aaron, and Samuel because of the clear answers they got from God. I mean this passage literally says they called to God and He answered. We see so many crazy, amazing ways that God moved in their midst and spoke to them in such clear ways. While yes, this was such a blessing for them that would be amazing to have in our story, we have something amazing in our story that exceeds all that we read in the stories of Moses, Aaron, or Samuel. We have the cross and the salvation of Jesus. Something so beautiful, so amazing, so lovely. Yes, God loved those in the Old Testament deeply, but God so loved the world as well. He loves you so deeply that He provided Jesus and the Holy Spirit to listen and provide everything we need for our story today. This God who our scripture reminds us reigns on high, over all nations and people, who is holy and just, has loved us so deeply to make a way for us to be with Him. Celebrate how God listened and answered in the past, but never set aside the blessing that we have today in Jesus. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2059
