Psalm – Chapter 92

  • They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green. Psalms 92:14 – Imagine planting an apple seed. When the season comes to harvest apples that year, you don’t expect to be getting much from it. You expect to see some growth, maybe some leaves beginning, but no apples. What about though the apple tree planted many years ago? We should be able to find it full of fruit because it’s be taken care of and fed for years. This is the imagery given concerning believers. As with a fruit tree, we shouldn’t just say “oh there are old and mature, we shouldn’t expect any fruit from them.” We should expect the most fruit from the ones who have walked the longest with God and been fed by Him the longest. So if you have had the blessing of being nurtured by God for many years know God is seeking fruit from you. What are you bearing for Him today? • ….that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever….The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. They are planted in the house of the Lord; they flourish in the courts of our God. Psalm 92:7, 12-13 – Scripture shows us that both grow. The wicked grow and the righteous grow. Both will have their time in the light and both will bloom. Yet notice here in these verses the examples the psalmist gives for each on how they’ll grow. The wicked will sprout and flourish like grass. They’ll grow fast and cover a lot of area and can seem overwhelming at times. Yet, like I did a couple evenings ago, a lawnmower can take out a whole yard pretty fast. The wicked may grow, but they don’t have much life to them. For the righteous though, they grow like tall palm trees and like the sturdy cedars of Lebanon. They aren’t coming down with a lawnmower. They aren’t green for a season but when a simple change  in temperature comes or rain is scarce they die off. They remain steadfast because their roots are connected to something real. So yes, both grow, but one remains. It’s those who stay faithful to their pursuit of God that stands the test of time. Today choose to pursue God and overlook the momentary blooms of the wicked. What God has for you in a life with Him is far better than anything this world can offer you. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2052
