- Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Psalm 90:15 – After a quick google search, there is 29,220 days in 80 years. Meaning if someone were blessed to live up to 80 years old, they would have spent 29,220 days on this earth. Now Moses, the writer of this psalm, lived to be 120 years old, so far more days than even that, and we know that many of those years were spent in struggle and affliction during the wilderness journey. Moses then in his prayer to the Lord asked that the days he spent in struggle would be matched with days of blessing. That’s a solid prayer that I would assume many of us would like to pray as well. For we’ve spent our fair share of days in struggle. Maybe we’re not yet at 29,220 days of struggle, but even if we were, we must remember the Lord plans to answer that prayer of Moses for every believer. For in Heaven, we will be glad for as many days as there are in eternity (a number that google couldn’t provide for me). I share that today as a reminder for you while you are in your days of struggle. These days will end. Hopefully before day one in Heaven for you begins, but if not at least remember there will be a day one in Heaven for you someday if you follow Jesus. The sorrows and struggles of yesterday will be forgotten when our heavenly afterlife begins. Cherish that beautiful future that’s ahead for every believer, that the glad days we are praying for are promised, and their gladness will outdo any struggle of our hard days. - So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalms 90:12 – A wise heart looks at life as a whole and doesn’t just remain in the moment. It sees the reality that an ending will come and will ask what sort of change did it leave behind. Here the psalmist is asking God to help him see his life for what it really is, something fleeting yet something that has purpose for the moment it’s around. We too need to realize our life on earth isn’t forever. What change then is going to be left behind once your life is over as a result of the life you did live? Remind yourself you only have one life to live and time moves fast. What change in this world and in the lives of others do you want left behind because you were here? - You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. Psalm 90:8 – Today I’m getting the chance to preach on a favorite topic of mine, reconciliation. My definition will be it’s the process of bringing back together what’s been torn apart. That two parties who were once good now aren’t due to some sort of wrong. They choose to come together, address the wrong, and seek peace and forgiveness with each other. Know today God knows the deep, dark wrongs in our story that has caused such havoc on our walk with Him. In fact we don’t even have to invite Him closer to see them, the light of His presence reveals to Him even the most secret of sins in our story. Meaning God knows about all of it. Yet, knowing all of it, He still is seeking reconciliation with us. Being fully aware of all the wrongs and secret sins God still chose to sacrifice it all on the cross to be with us. Dwell today on the truth that God knows it all and still longs to be with you. That someone sees your whole story, not a letter missing out or overlooked, and still deeply wants you in their life.
