Psalm – Chapter 9

  • And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10 – This psalm is filled with the contrasting future of those who oppose God and those who turn to God. For those that oppose the Lord, we learn that God will ultimately take care of them. Their cities will be uprooted, they will stumble before His glorious presence, the memory of them will be wiped away, and they will be thrown in Hell. So when I said God would ultimately take care of them, I wasn’t kidding! Then in contrast to that we see what the Lord will do for those that turn to Him. He is a refuge for them, they will never be forgotten, and they’ll be welcomed in the gates of Heaven where they will praise the wonders of the Lord. With such different outcomes, how then can we find ourselves on the side of blessing and not the side of destruction? Verse 10 guides us to that answer. We when have a relationship with the Lord is when we know His name. When we put our complete confidence in the Lord is when we truly trust Him. When we devotion our life to following His word is when we can say we are truly seeking Him. Let’s then ask ourselves these important questions. Do you have a relationship with Jesus yet? Does He have your complete confidence in all things in your life? Are you following what His words says? Know His name, trust in Him, and seek the Lord. Such a life is where David was at and such a life can enjoy the blessings we see David enjoying. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2964

  • The enemy came to an end in everlasting ruins; their cities you rooted out; the very memory of them has perished. Psalms 9:6 – God is about the complete removal and uprooting of sin and of any hold of the enemy in our story. We see that clearly in this verse, that God wholly rooted out the enemy and even the memory of them has gone. Today I hope we can have the same heart towards sin as God does. Often we allow a little bit of sin to hang around in our walk with God, leaving just a few roots buried underneath the ground where it looks like we got rid of the sin yet in truth we just covered it up. It doesn’t take an expert gardener to know that if you leave the roots in the ground the plant will keep growing. God wants a full uprooting of the sin in our story. It’s your enemy and nothing you want growing in your life. Trust that what God wants to plant in your life is better than anything the enemy wants to grow. • For you have maintained my just cause; you have sat on the throne, giving righteous judgment. Psalm 9:4 – God maintained his cause. David was walking a path of being faithful to all that God had placed in front of him. Despite the pushback from the enemies that surrounded him David was able to press forward because of the way God maintained him in his journey. What I also love is that God was able to do this seated on His throne. This just shows what power He has! Yet even with that power, when the need came to leave the throne and hang on a cross Jesus was willing to do that as well to maintain our cause. Whatever we need to continue pursuing Him faithfully God was and is willing to do. When our path is seeking Him, He’ll maintain that cause. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1726
