Psalm – Chapter 87

  • And of Zion it shall be said, “This one and that one were born in her”; for the Most High himself will establish her. The Lord records as he registers the peoples, “This one was born there.” Selah Psalms 87:5-6- Here in the US this year we will be taking a census where every person will say to the government where they are from. Imagine then in these verses God is taking a census of the world. It’s our turn to come up and announce where we are from. To say we were born on earth in sin and that’s where we come from. Yet instead of giving us a chance to speak out, God speaks and says this one is mine and was born of Heaven. Through the sacrifice of Jesus, we have a new home and a new story. We are of Heaven and born of God. Not because of anything grand we did but by the sacrifice and love of Jesus. Remember where you’re from and live accordingly. • Singers and dancers alike say, “All my springs are in you.” Psalm 87:7 – All the springs of peace, mercy, support, love, and rest that I come to in my time of need are found in you. Now of course this verse can be understood as the “you” being God. He is the spring that is the source of all this and more for us. Yet I also challenge you to uncover what the “you” in this verse was really pointing at. It was the church, the house of God. The whole psalm is speaking about the church and then concludes with saying that in the church can be found these springs of life we need. Today I want to encourage you to dig deeper into whatever church body you call your church family. In that community are springs of peace, support, wisdom, and life. The church is God’s tool at bringing the world to Himself. While that means it’s the tool to get the gospel to the lost it’s also the tool to bring the believer closer to Him. If you’re a believer in Jesus know the church is designed to draw you close to Jesus and be these springs of life in your walk. If your church isn’t being that for you then really pray about what to do. Do you stay to help change the culture there or is God leading you to a new church family? Either way scripture is pointing out the true role of the church. Do you have this in your church family? Have you leaned in enough yet to your church to experience these springs? Are you contributing to the springs coming out of your church to support the other members? I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2047
