Psalm – Chapter 83

  • O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God! Psalms 83:1 – When God speaks, universes are created. When God moves, all humanity feels it. The psalmist then is pleading for such power to begin happening with the setting he is in. This is when we need to be the ones being still and keeping silent. This is when we need to come to God and trust God hears us and is moving for us. Maybe what keeps God’s Word from moving like it could within the setting we’re in is because we haven’t been still enough to let it move. Allow then space for  God to move and have His way in your story. This power we read about is still alive and active, give God the space in your life to show you that. • Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek your name, O Lord. Let them be put to shame and dismayed forever; let them perish in disgrace, that they may know that you alone, whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth. Psalm 83:16-18 – Humility is so needed in our approach towards God. If we can look at ourselves and our story as see no wrongdoings then we can’t approach God like we need to. This verse speaks about filling their faces with shame. That they need to be shown how wrong the path is they have taken, they need to be brought low as a result of their sinfulness. Why? So they can see the wrong of their sinfulness. Sometimes it’s only when we’ve hit rock bottom that our eyes can see how shameful our sin is and how holy our God is. I don’t believe it brings joy to God to bring His creations to these low places, but He will allow it to happen so their eyes can be turned onto Him. Where then are your eyes? Do you see the wrong of your sin? Are you only focused on the depth of wrong in other people’s lives that you don’t see your own sin? Allow yourself to gaze at the sinfulness that is still within your story today. See it, sacrifice it at the altar, and being seeing Jesus as the Savior from your sin that He is.
