Psalm – Chapter 82

  • God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: Psalms 82:1 – When the word “gods” is used here it’s referring to the kings, leaders, and even religious leaders that God had put in place to judge and lead His people. What we learn from this passage is that God judges those that judge us. God is over those that are over us. God is sovereign, meaning He is over all and has power over all. So this means that when we have a power over us that God is over that power. We need not fear or worry, God is bigger and in control. How then should that change the way we follow and respect our leaders if God is over them? I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1145
  • They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. Psalm 82:5 – The “they” spoken of is the political leaders and judges during this time. They were wicked and not seeking after God in anyway. Rather than helping people away from sin, they dove deeper into their own sin. They end result, the foundations of the earth were shaken. Meaning as a result of the leaders sinfulness all the way down to the very foundations of society were effected by it. When the leader is consumed with sin, everyone under them feels the shaking. Be very prayerful then about who you set up as a leader. Maybe it’s a political leader, maybe your school is seeking out a new principal, or maybe like my home church we’re searching for a new senior pastor. Be very, very prayerful for God’s wisdom and direction on who you set up as your next leader. Don’t be caught up with all the flashy stuff the worldly looks at, look at their heart for Jesus. If Jesus has their heart and Jesus is clearly their leader, that’s a great sign they could lead you well. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2042
