- O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! Psalm 8:9 – When we read this psalm, one way to walk away from this psalm is seeing the glory of man on this earth for it speaks highly of mankind. David looks into the heavens and sees the billions of stars above him in the vast universe and is reminded that even through the greatness of all that God still is mindful of man and cares for us. Mankind has been made a little lower than the angels, man is crowned with glory and honor, and mankind has been given dominion over all creation. Again, one way to walk away from this psalm is seeing the glory of man, but that is not the heartbeat of this psalm. We are to see the greatness and glory of God through this psalm. God was able to take fragile mankind, made from the dust of the earth, and set him in glory. God is able to use even the words of infants to squash the forces of evil. God’s hands have made the universe above us and His name is set in glory over all the earth. For consider our personal situation. We, with our sin struggles and worries over tomorrow and doubts in life, God was able to take and make holy and will one day set us over the world to reign with Him in Heaven. That truth shouldn’t glorify us, but glorify the Lord who is able to do such wonderous things. What a mighty, majestic, wonderful God we serve! - When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Psalms 8:3-4 – Yesterday I had the blessing of getting to preach at church and my message tied itself around the point that God has pursued us and we should begin pursuing Him back. When I read a passage like this the message, though I even preached it just yesterday, still amazes me that God loves us and pursues us over anything else in creation. Today as you’re scrolling through social media and you see those amazing nature sceneries in the background remember the God who breathed those into existence loves you and is pursuing a life with you. You mean that much to Him. Never let the enemy steal away from your memory this truth. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 770
- O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. Psalm 8:1 – Above the heavens. We can be amazed at grand things on earth. Like a powerful waterfall or breathtaking mountain, but God’s glory is higher than theirs. We can look at the night sky and see the bright moon, bazillion stars, and everything else that is so stunning to look upon. God’s glory though is higher than even all of that. God is worthy of more awe than these things and is more praiseworthy than all of creation combined. Scripture says even creation itself is aware of this because it gives God its praise. Where my heart is going to dwell today with this passage is to remember to give God the most praise and awe in my life over anything else. I may see beautiful, powerful, breathtaking things, but God is worthy of my praise over all those things. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1725
