- Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah Then I said, “I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.” I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. Psalms 77:8-11 – The psalmist writes that his current situation seems hopeless. The Hebrew here can be translated “this makes me sick” as he looks on his life at this time. But he chooses to bring this season of life, and all the questions he has about God and His goodness, to the memories of how God has proven Himself good in the past. He chooses to remember how God has taken care of him in the past and brings his current struggles and doubts to those memories. Let’s do the same when we are struggling and doubting God’s goodness. Remember how He has been good and saved you in the past and remember He is an unchanging God. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 1140
- I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah Psalm 77:1-3 – “Days of trouble must be days of prayer.” I found this quote in Matthew Henry’s commentary over this passage this morning. Not sure if you needed to hear that, but I sure did this morning. As we navigate the psalm, it’s clear the psalmist was going through a season where trouble was presence yet also a silence from God. Those seasons can be the most difficult, where you have the enemy in your face yet you can’t see your Savior. If that’s your season right now, pray. Pray like you’ve never prayed before. Maybe that looks like actually getting on your knees before God. If you’ve never done that before, there is just something humbling about that posture with God. Pray without saying anything, giving God time to speak instead of us talking the whole time. Read scripture but pray it to God as you read His Word. Right now you need your Heavenly Father and prayer is going to best connection point. Yes, it feels like He is distant, but He isn’t. He’s right here.
