- Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son! Psalms 72:1 – This verse, and the chapter that follows it, can be understood from a few point of views. From Solomon speaking to his own son, Solomon writing as his father David to himself, even Solomon writing of the Messiah that was to come from his line. Whatever way we read it though it’s clear that there is an understanding that it is God who takes care of the king and the land. It is God who should be sought out, asked of for blessing, and praised. It’s easy in our life to give things like our own effort or our jobs the credit to what is taking care of us. Here the psalmist makes it clear to us he understood it’s only through God that these blessings come and his life is sustained. Have we came to that understanding yet? - May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth! Psalm 72:6 – Yesterday evening where I live there was a torrential downpour of rain. So much rain that I briefly had to run out to pull the car up for my wife and in the few steps I took out in the rain I was soaked. Every inch of my clothes, hair, and shoes were drenched. Nothing was kept from being touched by the rain. Now our verse today relates the blessing of God to the rain of the earth and I can’t help but think about the shower I got last night in the rain. God isn’t just sprinkling a droplet of blessing on our story once in awhile, the way God is moving in our story is a torrential downpour. Every part of our lives is being touched by God. Nothing is staying dry. Just like the rain refreshes the parched earth so will this downpour of God refresh us. Today know you are in the downpour of God. Maybe it doesn’t feel like it in the moment, but God is pouring deeply into your life right now to sustain you and provide for you. Dwell today on your life and seek if you can find a part that God hasn’t had His hand in somehow. I love you, but Jesus loves you more – Mac – Daily DEVO 2032
