- Arise, O Lord, in your anger; lift yourself up against the fury of my enemies; awake for me; you have appointed a judgment. Psalm 7:6 – We see within the intro of this psalm that David is in agony over the words being said about him by a man named Cush from the tribe of Benjamin. While commentators have speculations on who this is and the incident from scripture this is referring to, we don’t know exactly the details surrounding this situation. We know though that whatever Cush said about David was tearing David apart and if help from the Lord didn’t come then David was done for. David now pleads to the Lord to take His seat on the throne of judgment over this situation. David invited God to look at his life completely, then look at this sinful situation, and act justly against the sin He saw. While such a request from David is holy and good, I can’t help but wonder how many of us would back away from such a request of the Lord. Where we may be struggling in life and wanting help, but we wouldn’t ask the Lord to do what David asked the Lord to do. We’re not asking the Lord to take His seat on the throne of judgment and then look at every detail of our life. We have stuff in our life right now that we’d rather the Lord not see and we’re content not dealing with the consequences of God’s judgment on our sin. If then we’d find ourselves fearful of having God take the judgement seat over our life…then are we really living for the Lord like we ought to? Let us today examine why we may fear the Lord looking at our whole life and even ask the Lord to reveal to us the sin that He wants out of our life. As a follower of Jesus, we should never live a life that seeks to keep things in the shadows from Jesus. Live holy and God’s judgement will not be something we fear but welcome. - God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day. Psalms 7:11 – Apparently this indignation means an anger that is provoked by what is perceived as unfair treatment. It makes complete since though that God would see our treatment of Him often as unfair. He gave us everything, including His own Son to die for us, so that we could be free from sin and be with Him. Yet so often we take the life God gives and then go about doing as we please not giving God a thought. How has this been your story? How have you treated God unfairly? We see in this psalm God’s attitude and plan for sin and the sinner who refuses to repent. We know though that as Christians that ending isn’t our story because of Jesus. We’ve been blessed with life and salvation, what then does God deserves from us because of that? What does giving God our everything look like and how can you begin today doing just that? - O Lord my God, if I have done this, if there is wrong in my hands, if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause…Psalm 7:3-4 – The psalmist is acknowledging that if he had done these wrongs that it would make sense to him for God to not become his refuge from his enemy. What we must realize is we have violated God’s law. We broke the law with our sin. That’s what makes what God did for us all the more special. He was fully aware that we broke His law yet still He became our refuge. He choose to still come through for us even when we walked away from Him. That’s the sort of love your Heavenly Father has for you. Today, maybe you’re coming of a streak of not-so-right of choices. Know God has remained a refuge for you to come to and even today after all that if you turn to Him He’ll gladly welcome you in. He deeply loves you like that.
